By popular demand, John D. Reid has opened nominations for the sixth annual Rockstar Genealogist.
John wrote, “Rockstar genealogists are those who give ‘must attend’ presentations at family history conferences or as webinars, who when you see a new family history article or publication by that person, makes it a must buy. If you hang on their every word on a blog, podcast or newsgroup, or follow avidly on Facebook or Twitter they are likely Rockstar candidates. For clarity, it’s about communication and influence not who’s the best researcher.”
This year, the nomination process is a bit different. John explained, “As people who proved to get few votes were previously nominated, two nominations will now be required. To do so, send an email with your name, contact information and reason for the nomination, see the criteria below, to johndreid at gmail dot com. Then arrange for someone else to nominate. I will verify and only include those I judge have a fair chance of rating in the top ten for their country/region.”
Remember, folks, this is supposed to be fun. A couple of years ago, some people, primarily in Canada, got their knickers in knots about the results. Not everyone agreed on who made it to the top ten — and who didn’t. The controversy at the time was about the small number of Canadians who were recognized. Last year, John adjusted the categories, and that seemed to keep most people happy.
Visit John’s blog, Canada’s Anglo-Celtic Connections, to see the current list of nominations and to nominate your favourite rockstar genealogist(s). The deadline for nominations is 2:00 p.m. Eastern time, Saturday, October 14.
