Bakara Books will soon release the book, Richmond, Now and Then: An Anecdotal History, about the small, historic town in Quebec’s Eastern Townships.
Richmond was originally settled by colonists from New England, Montreal, and the Richelieu River valley in about 1798. It is considered to be one of the oldest settlements in the Townships.
Though not a bastion of wealth, Richmond is rich in stories people have told, and author Nick Fonda has uncovered some of their tales.
Avery Denison carved a community out of wilderness, left many descendants, but was killed by highwaymen in 1826.
Young Italian immigrant Ralph Andosca was mysteriously murdered in Melbourne in 1905.
Irish orphan Patrick Quinn, ordained priest in 1862, served the booming railroad town Richmond, for 50 years.
The 236-page book with photos and maps will be released October 15 and available from Bakara Books.

Looking forward to obtaining this book. My great great grandparents brought their large family from Dumfriesshire, Scotland, to Melbourne, Richmond 1869-70. Although they, and several of their children let the area in later years, some remained.
My grandmother would have witnessed this railroad accident!
