‘Canadian Historical Review’ archives free until July 3

To mark the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation, almost 100 years — more than 2,00 articles — of The Canadian Historical Review are available to read online for free until July 3, 2017.

There is a large number of articles about social, political, medical, and military history that will interest genealogists who want to gain a better understanding of the lives their ancestors lived, events that may have influenced their decisions, and their environment.

Searchable
The Canadian Historical Review can be searched by keyword or browsed, issue by issue. An advanced search is also available, but will not be that useful to genealogists.

A more useful feature for us is the Related Content Search. When you find an article that interests you and you want to know if there are more articles on the same topic, you can conduct a search of selected keywords or the author.

The ‘Related Content Search’ feature is especially useful when looking at articles published in recent years.

The majority of articles in The Canadian Historical Review are written in English, with some written in French.

A few quick keyword searches found the following articles. (A search of Fenian resulted in 83 articles.)

Pioneering a Rural Identity on the Canadian Shield: Tourism, Household Economies, and Poor Soils in Muskoka, Ontario, 1870–1900, Andrew Wilson, Summer 2017, Vol. 98, No. 2, pp. 261-293.

The Habitant’s Standard of Living on the Seigneurie Des Mille Isles, 1820–50,
W. Stanford Reid, September 1947, Vol. 28, No. 3, pp. 266-278.

The Canadian Historical Review archives are only available until July 3 on the University of Toronto Press (UTP) website, along with several other UTP publications. So, hop to it.
