CBC will broadcast tonight at 9:00 p.m. the documentary, Once An Immigrant, about Irish immigration to Canada and an elderly Irish woman’s return to her homeland.
In this one-hour documentary, actor Peter Keleghan takes a trip to Ireland with his sister and their 90-year-old Irish mother. Together, they visit his mother’s hometown of Navan, which she remembers quite well, and where they discover Ireland also remembers her through parish registers and family members.
Peter and his family have chosen a particularly historic time to visit Ireland — 2016 marks the hundred-year anniversary of the Easter Rising. While in Dublin, Peter discusses Ireland’s often-difficult history and its progressive present in interviews with author and activist Danny Morrison and politician, human rights activist and Joycean scholar David Norris.
