A fairly new play, Home Child, that tells the story of a British Home Child who arrived in Quebec’s Eastern Townships in 1894, will be performed on January 14 at Bishop’s University in Lennoxville (Sherbrooke), Quebec.
Written by Laura Teasdale, Home Child is about a London girl who is sent to Quebec and an Eastern Townships boy “who struggles to make room for her in his family and in his heart.”
Between 1869 and the late 1930s, more than 100,000 British children were sent to Canada.
Home Child will be presented by the Townshippers’ Association at 7:00 p.m. in Bishop University’s Bandeen Hall at 2600 rue College. It will be performed in English.
Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door. You can learn more on the Townshippers’ Association website.
Home Child will also be performed on January 21 in Lac-Brome. It was performed in September 2016 in Brome and at the Knowlton art festival.
