Genealogy of Acadian families, from A to W

The seventh volume on the genealogy of Acadian families of Prince Edward Island, c. 1764 to c. 1900, will be launched at the Acadian Museum of PEI in Miscouche Thursday, June 23.

Written by historian-genealogist Jean Bernard, the 325-page book contains the genealogy of Acadian family names in PEI, beginning with the letters R to W, such as Richard, Thériault, Thibodeau, and Waite. Although written mainly in French, the volume includes an English translation of key words and abbreviations to make it user-friendly for English-speaking researchers.

Mr. Bernard published the first volume in the series about the Arsenaults, descended from Pierre Arsenault, in 2009.

The first Acadians arrived in Acadia, now Nova Scotia, in the 17th century and then some travelled to Prince Edward Island between 1720 and 1758, according to Lucie Leblanc’s website, Acadian and French-Canadian Ancestral Home.
