Three genealogical societies in Canada’s prairie provinces are collaborating to find articles about the North West Mounted Police for their respective journals.
The Alberta Genealogical Society, Saskatchewan Genealogical Society, and Manitoba Genealogical Society have issued a call to members and others for articles for their summer issues about the NWMP, precursors to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
They are looking for stories about the activities of early members of the NWMP that go beyond serving as peace officers.
Wayne Shepheard, editor of the AGS journal, Relatively Speaking, said, “The three organizations share the same objectives with respect to family history research and the same general geography of the plains. This project will give each of us an expanded readership for this, and possibly, future issues and also a greater author pool from which we might source future articles.”
The societies would like to hear from NWMP historians and descendants of these men who went west to help police the region and then settled in Western Canada. Many stayed in Western Canada after leaving the service, marrying and raising families.
If you have a good story to tell, send your article to rseditor @ abgenealogy.ca. The submission deadline is June 1, 2016.
