At 1:00 p.m., the Branch will host 30 minutes of networking and refreshments.
Then, at 1:30 p.m., Ms. Debruin will deliver her presentation, Captive Ancestors of North America. This presentation will be live streamed for members and non-members who cannot attend in person. You can watch the live presentation from your computer by joining it here.
Many North Americans can count at least one captive ancestor in their family tree. Riveting, complex and heartbreaking, the captive story is one of tragedy and triumph. As the battle for supremacy over the colonies of North America raged from the early 1700s and beyond, people were swept up in its wake – many of them children. The audience will be taken on a treacherous journey, exploring the many complexities of life in ancient lands, and the result of French and English claims to its riches.
The meeting is open to the public and admission is free. It will take place at the City of Ottawa Archives, 100 Tallwood Drive, Room 115.
