Further to yesterday’s post about society development workshops at the Southern California Genealogical Society’s Jamboree, the Federation of Genealogical Societies plans a full day of strategic planning sessions at its conference in Texas this August. The sessions, such as those listed below, offer thought-provoking issues that should be discussed at your society’s next strategic planning meeting.
I hope the societies who say, “We’ve always done it this way,” are paying attention. Yes, genealogy is supposed to be fun, and it can certainly remain so, provided your bills are paid and your membership grows. If your society, is facing dwindling membership and increasing costs, it is time to re-think how you move forward. What worked 20 years ago may not work today.
