The Canadian Irish Studies Foundation at Concordia University in Montreal recently marked a turning point in its history when its chair, Brian O’Neill Gallery, stepped down after almost two decades.
In the foundation’s Winter/Spring 2016 newsletter, Michael Kenneally, principal of the School of Canadian Irish Studies, wrote, “〈Mr. Gallery〉 helped put Concordia on the map as the only university in North America offering a degree that focuses on the history and culture of Ireland, and the story of the Irish abroad.”
To mark Mr. Gallery’s retirement as foundation chair and recognize his achievements, the foundation established the Brian O’Neill Gallery Scholarship Fund to provide approximately $50,000 annually for students of Irish studies who demonstrate high academic commitment and success.
Stepping into the chair’s position is lawyer Pamela McGovern.
