Ancestry.ca releases new look for Canadians

Ancestry.ca sent the following message.

〈Today〉, Canadians will have the chance to try an updated Ancestry experience, with the site redesigned to transform how Canadians discover and tell their family story.

With new storytelling features and a streamlined design, the new Ancestry site will help Canadians move beyond names and dates, enhancing the stories of their ancestors’ lives. A few new features include:

  • LifeStory, which uses events, sources and relationships you’ve collected in your family tree to create a holistic, time-based narrative of these moments;
  • Historical Insights will now appear within your ancestor’s life story, giving you context about the events that impacted their lives;
  • Facts and Galleries will transform how you view, arrange and share the details of your ancestors’ lives.

For more insight on the new site features, take a look at this video created by Ancestry.

    The USA version has had it all for some months while Ancestrydotcom worked out the kinks (one could’ve wished they’d worked out the kinks before releasing it); they’re still fixing things. The upshot for me personally is that I like the new facts page (though lots don’t among American bloggers), the Gallery page is fine, I find some parts of the search functions are better and some are less helpful than before, and I completely ignore the Lifestory page. (To the point that I occasionally forget it is there. )

    It will be interesting to see what you think after you’ve used it a bit.

    In the middle of doing some updating and correcting relationships the whole layout of ancestry changed.
    I can’t make head nor tail of it.
    WHY? WHY? WHY?

    Not impressed, not happy at all
