FamilySearch adds PEI death records, 1721-1905

FamilySearch has uploaded almost 16,000 images of handwritten index cards that provide information about deaths in Prince Edward Island between 1721 and 1905.

Access to the Prince Edward Island Death Card Index, 1721-1905, is free, and it is easy to browse because the cards are arranged alphabetically by family name.

The death and burial information was taken from church records, newspaper announcements, and unidentified sources — before the recording of deaths in PEI became mandatory in 1906. The card index was prepared by the Prince Edward Island Division of Vital Statistics.

While transcriptions of these index cards have been available for at least a couple of years on the Prince Edward Island Public Archives and Records Office website, I much prefer looking at images of the original cards on FamilySearch.
