2016 Rockstar Genealogist gold award winners… stunning

I was stunned.

I was truly surprised when I read I had won the Gold award in the Canada category in this year’s Rockstar Genealogist vote organized by John D. Reid.

Frankly, there were so many great Canadian genealogists nominated, I wasn’t hopeful about making it into the top ten. (Last year, I was in eighth position.)

Now that the news has sunk in, I feel flattered by the support of those who voted for me.

I’m in excellent company. Ontario genealogists Lorine McGinnis Schulze and Christine Woodcock won silver and bronze, respectively. Both have done much for the genealogy community in Canada and elsewhere. And both have kindly promoted my blog on social media, and Lorine has been a great mentor.

It is wonderful to be among this year’s Gold award winners who teach me something almost every week and who I look to for inspiration: Judy G. Russell, United States; Jill Ball, Australia; Kirsty Gray, England; and Maurice Gleeson, Ireland.

According to the voting criteria John provided, “Rockstar genealogists are those who give ‘must attend’ presentations at family history conferences or as webinars, who when you see a new family history article or publication by that person, makes it a must buy.

“If you hang on their every word on a blog, podcast or newsgroup, or follow avidly on Facebook or Twitter they are likely Rockstar candidates.”

Congratulations to all the award winners, including the Silver and Bronze medallists announced yesterday.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the vote, and especially those who voted for me. I appreciate your support.
